"Hello Internet: Wax Cylinder Edition" or "Hello Internet Wax Cylinder Episode" is an upcoming special episode of Hello Internet to be released in 2019 exclusively on wax phonograph cylinders.[1] The project was first announced on April 29, 2019 by Brady Haran and CGP Grey in episode 122. The sale of the first run both began and ended on that day; no announcement of shipping dates has yet been made. Due to the limitations of the technology, the episode will have a running length of approximately two minutes, the shortest duration of any installment in the history of the podcast.

"Wax Cylinder Edition" will succeed Hello Internet: The Vinyl Episode (2016) as the second installment of the podcast released exclusively on an uncommon physical medium—outside of the numbered episode chronology—for the purpose of novelty. As with "The Vinyl Episode", Haran conceived of the idea and undertook its execution without assistance from Grey outside of the initial recording and editing. The entirety of the episode's first run, like that of its predecessor, was limited in quantity and within hours of being announced had been completely sold.

In order to play a physical copy of "Wax Cylinder Edition", the listener must have access to specialized equipment or a homemade system designed to play phonograph cylinders.

According to Haran, the episode will consist of him and Grey briefly discussing antiquated technologies that they remember.

Website description

"An exclusive episode of Hello Internet on a genuine wax cylinder - the same technology used to record and play sound in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The episode is approximately 2 minutes in duration.

The cylinder is stored in a solid cardboard tube with branded HI labelling, in-keeping with the era.

You will require a special phonograph player in order to listen - but it’s also a nice curio your personal HI museum."[1]
