GeekBrief.TV was a tech podcast that explained and sometimes reviewed new gadgets, websites and toys. It was created by self-proclaimed geeks Luria Petrucci (aka Cali Lewis) and her husband Neal Campbell. It circles around the idea of a Geek Intelligence Agency (GIA) that provides knowledge to geeks everywhere. The reason for GeekBrief.TV being so short is because, according to Cali, geeks don't have time to hear an in depth report.

Exactly five months after launching the show the producers announced that it was possible for them to leave behind "the tyranny of the day jobs", due to support and income from PodShow and podcast full-time.[1]

"We released the first Geek Brief on December 23, 2005, having never done anything in video production, on camera or off." state Cali and Neal.[2]

GeekBrief.TV released its final episode on June 25, 2010 citing business issues with their partner Mevio.[3] Cali Lewis has begun a new podcast named GeekBeat.TV.

Formats[edit | edit source]

Geek Brief TV offered four formats; large format (QuickTime .mov files), an iPod friendly format (iTunes .m4v files), an audio edition (.mp3 files) and a Windows Media Video edition (.wma). Each format was available in a separate RSS feed.

Reviews[edit | edit source]

In 2006, Geek Brief TV was reviewed in MicroMart by Terry Freedman.[4] He said the show was professionally produced, and he also appreciated the presenter was female, in contrast with the usual male bias in technology in general.

It is believed that the first print article about the GIA and GeekBrief.TV was published via the syndicated column TechLife by Dave Kaufman.[5] Dave interviewed both Neal and Luria in the early days of the GIA and there are some pieces about their life starting up the show. It is still one of the most popular articles in the archives with approximately 20-30 visits daily.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Cali appeared on behalf of GeekBrief.TV on MSNBC's program The Most with Alison Stewart.[6] and in The Business Podcasting Bible (ISBN 1933596376). She has also co-hosted numerous episodes of Call For Help with Leo Laporte.[7] She has also applied for The Best Job In The World; and was one of the finalists.

Awards[edit | edit source]

In 2006, Geek Brief TV was nominated [8] for The Podcast Peer Award under the categories of "News / Documentary / Current Events" and "Technology".
