Dan Kennedy is an American author, stage performer, and host of The Moth storytelling podcast in New York.[1][2][3]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Kennedy's writing first gained attention at McSweeney's, a literary website and quarterly journal. He then started performing on stage with New York-based storytelling collective The Moth in 2000.[4] In 2003 he published his first book, Loser Goes First: My Thirty-Something Years of Dumb Luck and Minor Humiliation, with Random House. He followed this up with a well received memoir in 2008 entitled Rock On: An Office Power Balled,[5][6] in which he discussed his time working for Atlantic Records,[7] in New York. Kennedy's debut novel American Spirit [8] was released in 2013. His work has appeared in GQ Magazine and on the Peabody Award winning Moth Radio Hour, and his writing has been published in multiple anthologies in Europe and the United States.[9][10]

In 2015 Kennedy began writing for television and film, and he sits on the judging committees of the 2017 PEN America Jean Stein Grant for Literary Oral History, and the 2017 Writers Guild of America East “Made in New York” Fellowship Program.[11][12]
