Sample of How a Table Could Look[edit source]

Here's a sample sortable table I whipped up. It has more columns than I think are actually necessary, but I wanted to give you a good idea of what I was thinking could potentially go on there (and it's easier for you to just pare it down to what you want). I added a few podcasts that I'm familiar with as examples. You'd want to actually codify what values can go into the cells as opposed to my hodge-podge of yes/mostly/rarely/etc so that if you added more entries sorting it would actually give you meaningful results, and sorting is where I think this table would really shine. I also didn't add color to it, thought it looked fine without it, but that might change with a lot of entries.

Comparison of Gaming Podcasts
Type of Game Genre and Branding Frequent Segments or Features
Podcast Name Description How Focused on Gaming? Genre Specific? Videogame Tabletop Company Sponsored? Game Specific? Gaming News In-Depth Discussion "Game of the Week" Reader Mail or Questions
Three Moves Ahead A strategy gaming podcast Completely Strategy Yes Yes No No Yes Yes Yes No

Laser Time A Pop-Culture podcast Rarely No Sometimes No No No No Yes No No
Rooster Teeth A podcast founded by the creators of Red vs Blue Frequently No Frequently Rarely Fullscreen Media No No No No Yes

I still want the Tabletop Games and Video Games to be separated; most podcasts still do one or the other, and if a podcast from one category occasionally talks about topics in the other category, the podcast should still be in the category it is primarily about. Considering that there are thousands of gaming podcasts, it is impossible to maintain the quality of a list while still adding to it in a timely matter with all of the data you mentioned. I'll make an alternative table and see what you think. CoolieCoolster (talk) 00:09, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

That's cool man, I honestly didn't expect you to even want to use it as is. I don't even expect that I'd be the majority contributor in the end. I just wanted to give you something to work with and customize. --ExplosiveRunes (talk) 00:13, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Well, I had four different tables done, but they got erased. RIP. I'll just try to explain my concept in words. Every single list article would be kept; this will help to reduce the load on the main list article and will help make the lists easier to find in search engines. The tables will have five different columns; One for the name of the podcast with a wikilink to that podcast's article (even if it doesn't have an article yet), one for the official description of that podcast, one for a link to that podcast's website, one for the categorization that podcast falls into in it's respective topic (for example, different formats for Dungeons & Dragons, or different games in a series of games), and podcast genre (for example, discussion, comedy, or interview).
The new system should make it easier for people to find podcasts they are looking for while also not making it too difficult to add to the list. If you are interested in continuing to help me put this plan into action, that would be much appreciated. This project is far outside the scope of one person, so I hope over time I can create a community of editors. CoolieCoolster (talk) 01:00, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Just to make sure I understand your idea let me restate how I understood it so you can correct me if I get it wrong: You still want a main list article, with a consolidated table (though with less categories than the original proof of concept), then for the articles under that to have more concise tables that have more detailed information in them (The five columns you specifically called out).

As for the division between tabletop and video gaming, you're probably right. I think a solution would be to just to list edge case podcasts (like 3ma where its about a 50/50 split) as "both" and then just give it an entry in both relevant articles.--ExplosiveRunes (talk) 22:17, 22 May 2018 (UTC)

Here is what I mean:

Example Table
Podcast Name Description Website Link Subcategory Podcast Genre

It's a bit simple, however to maintain and add to such an extensive list, simplicity is key. CoolieCoolster (talk) 23:44, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
